Chapter 2 part 2: The lone cyborg

A week after the incident of the mosquito villain and her life ended with a slap to the face, Theuros was hanging out at Saitama’s place, both watching TV until they heard someone called out from outside.

“Sensei!” The voice called out, made Theuros and Saitama look at each other before Theuros waved his hands in a surrender motion before he stood up and walked towards the door. He unlocked the door and saw the cyborg from before.

“Oh, it’s you! Oi, Sai, he’s here!” Theuros called out behind him.

“He really showed up?!” Saitama called back.

“Come in. I’ll make everyone some tea.” Theuros welcomed the cyborg in and went in the kitchen and made some tea for everyone.

“Thank you.”

“No problem.” Theuros finished making the teas and put them on the table before taking a seat between Saitama and the cyborg.

“Oh, wait. We didn’t get your name. I’m Theuros.”

“Nice to meet you, Theuros. My name is Genos.”

“Go on home after your drink. I’m not looking for disciples.” Saitama said. Genos looked over at Theuros with a questionable look.

“Oh, I’m not a disciple. I’m just an acquaintance.” Theuros clarified.

“Wait—you’re back in one piece?” Saitama noticed.

“Yes, my body is mostly mechanical. As long as there are parts, repairs are quick.” Genos explained.

“You’re an odd one.” Saitama commented.

“Really? I think he’s really cool!” Theuros said.

“What kind of parts do you use, sensei?” Genos asked.

“Don’t use any.” Saitama answered.

“Then what about the skin-colored armor on your head?”

“Yeah, that’s my skin.”

“But that would mean you’re bald despite being so young.”

“So I’m bald—what’s your problem, huh?! And Theuros stop laughing!”

Theuros grabbed his stomach as he’s laughing his head off from Genos commenting that Saitama is bald and Saitama’s reaction.

“I’m sorry.” Theuros panted, trying to catch his breath.

“Me? You’ll listen to my problems?” Genos questioned.

“No thanks, I’m good.” Saitama said, not looking interested in the slightest. But Genos ignored what Saitama said and started his story:

“Actually, four years ago, when I was 15, I was still a real human being. Although we had to pinch pennies, my family and I lived a peaceful and fairly happy life. But one day, a crazy cyborg went out of control and attacked our town. The insane cyborg… most likely, a failed body modification generated an irregularity in his brain. He destroyed everything in sight. Parks, schools, buildings, my house… He even took my family’s lives. Miraculously I survived, but being only a weak 15-year-old, I was alone and at the end of my strength in a ruined town. That’s when Doctor Kuseno happened to pass through. Doctor Kuseno, a scientist for justice, was on a mission to stop the destruction caused by the rampaging cyborg. I asked Doctor Kuseno to perform body modification surgery on me. That’s how I was reborn as a cyborg who fights for justice. I promised Doctor Kuseno that one day I would terminate the evil cyborg.”

Genos explained and Theuros couldn’t help but feel sorry for the blonde cyborg. Not just sorry, but also empathize with him. He understands what he’s going through and what his goals are. That’s almost like what Theuros is emotionally and physically going through currently.

Saitama was about to say something but Genos cuts him off and continued with his story, “It’s been four years since that day. I’m now 19 and I’ve been wandering form town to town eliminating evil. The number of monsters and criminal organizations I have destroyed are too many to count. But I have been unable to find any clues about the insane cyborg and have become increasingly frustrated and restless.” Saitama’s leg began shaking and Theuros placed his head on his hand, his elbow resting on the table as they continued listening to the cyborgs story, “I find myself chasing a virtual image of that cyborg whenever I square off against my enemies. Then last week, when that mosquito monster appeared, I let my concentration slip.”

As Genos continue to tell his story, Theuros stopped listening as he spun his finger over his tea mug and the tea began to follow his finger tip. All of the sudden, Saitama yelled at Genos to stop and shorten his story to 20 words or less. The sudden outburst made Theuros jump and that resulted in the tea he was controlling to splash on Saitama’s face.

“Sorry!” Therous said, trying to contain his laughter as he quickly got up to fetch a towel and gave it to Saitama. He took the towel and wiped the tea off of his face and parts of his jumpsuit.

“Sensei, here is the short version: Please teach me the way to become strong like you.” Genos said. Theuros and Saitama stared at Genos before Saitama broke the silence.

“Genos.”

“Yes!”

“How old are you?”

“19.”

“So young…” Saitama murmured, “I’m sure you’ll surpass me in no time.”

Theuros and Genos looked Saitama in surprised.

“Do you mean it?” Genos asked.

“I’m 25 now, but I was 22 when I started training in the summer.” Saitama said, making Genos look at him in shock at how long Saitama did his training.

“Sure, I’ll teach you. But, it won’t be easy. Are you ready? Can you handle it?”

“Yes!”

‘I don’t know how he’s going to train him if he’s mostly mechanic.’ Theuros thought to himself.

“What about you, Theuros-kun?” Genos asked Theuros.

“Huh?”

“You appear to be a normal teenage boy, but it seems like you possess special abilities.”

“Yeah. I have atmoskinesis. I can control fire,” Theuros summoned a ball of fire in his hand, his eyes glowing red, “water,” He moved his hand over Saitama’s tea, lifting the hot green water out of the cup and formed a sphere in his hand, his eyes glowed blue, “earth,” He pulled out a rock in his pocket and it floated over his hand, his eyes glowed green “and air.” Finally, he summoned a ball of air in his hand, eyes glowing yellow, “I’ve had this power since I was born. 14 years to be exact.”

Genos suddenly leaped up and crouched into a racing position in the hallway of the apartment, “Object approaching at high speed—it’s here!”

“Huh?”/“What?”*

Theuros flinched as he heard an explosion from the ceiling and the wall behind him; as the dust cleared, a praying mantis monster appeared.

“My name is… huh?”

Saitama interrupted the monster’s greeting by punching it in the face, bits of its brain and glass hitting the wall behind it. Green blood gushing out of its neck as its body twitches.

“Pay for my ceiling!” Saitama said angrily.

“There are two more outside. Sensei, leave them to me!” Genos said as he leaped out of the huge hole in the wall and landed on the ground. But Saitama was already outside and had beaten the two monsters into the ground, their legs sticking up like sprouts.

“Don’t bust people’s ceilings!” Saitama said to the two possibly dead monsters.

Theuros leaped out through the hole and landed beside Genos. Before they knew it, Saitama was suddenly pulled into the ground, only to have his head sticking out.

“S-Sensei!” Genos said, ready to go over and help him.

“No, I’m fine.” Saitama said, making Genos to stop in his tracks, “I kinda feel like a… bamboo shoot.”

Theuros facepalmed with a quiet groan. ‘Be serious right now!’ that’s what he wanted to say but didn’t.

“Elevated energy levels detected.”

Both teens turned at the sound of the building behind them exploding, followed by blue lightning. Both of their eyes widened at the huge cyborg standing before them.

Theuros and Genos stood their grounds as the cyborg glanced down at them. It gazed at Genos, “You are not one of the targets.” The cyborg then glanced at Theuros, “However, you, element boy, are. Out of the way!” The cyborg launched a punch at Genos, which he easily dodged.

“Theuros-kun, stay back. He’s after you. I’ll handle this.” Genos said, Theuros was going to reply back but Genos began attacking the cyborg. Theuros heard loud thumping coming behind him and turned to see a giant lion creature standing in front of the Saitama and talking to him.

‘Wow. I wonder if that lion and Leo were to fight, who would win? Oh, who am I kidding? It would be Leo.’ Theuros thought to himself.

Theuros looked back at the fight in front of him and Genos was delivering blows to the cyborg. Theuros watched the fight with a pain on his chest and something that felt like a storm stirring up inside of him. He groaned in pain a bit but he brushed it off, thinking it was nothing too serious. After the attack, Genos stepped back to stand beside Theuros as a cloud of dust and smoke covered the area, the only thing that was visible were the two glowing blue eyes of the cyborg.

“I am the pinnacle of the House of Evolution science. I am Armored Gorilla, your attacks have no effect.” The cyborg said.

“The House of Evolution? What does it want with my sensei and Theuros-kun?” Genos demanded.

“It is none of your business. And it is our rule that any who oppose us be eliminated without fail.” The gorilla cyborg said as it approaches Genos, ready to attack him, “I must destroy you.”

Theuros saw this as an opportunity to help; he focused his energy on the ground and raised his hands up and clenched his hands into fists. As he did that, the ground beneath the cyborg embedded themselves around the cyborgs feet, trapping the cyborg in place. He quickly moved one of his hands to the water that was leaking out of the pipes from the ground and wrapped the water around the cyborgs wrists and freezing the water to become ice to bind the cyborgs arms in place.

“Now!” Theuros called out to Genos.

Genos raises his hand to the cyborg and blasted fire at it. The force of the blast caused the cyborgs body to fly back into the building behind it, its arms and legs ripped off of the body. The legs were still in place of the earth binds while the ice melted back to water from the fire and the arms had fallen in the ground.

Theuros moved close to the cyborg and removed its helmet, revealing an actual gorilla head.

“Answer the question or be eliminated. Your choice.” Genos threatened as he raised his glowing hand at the gorilla. Theuros formed a fire ball in his hand and raised it above his head, ready to strike at the defeated cyborg.

The gorilla glared at the teens, “It is you who will be eliminated. You fool. I am the third most powerful fighter in the ‘House of Evolution’. At your power level, you will never beat the Beast King, the second most powerful. You will be destroyed.”

Saitama walked up between the two teens and holds up one of the lion monster’s eyeballs.

“Is this who you mean?” Saitama asked.

“Eww! Throw that away!” Theuros exclaimed.

“Apparently so.” Genos replied.

The gorilla continue to silently stare at the three for a while before his serious face suddenly changed into a panicked plea and his voice changed, “Look, I’m really sorry. I’ll tell you everything, just don’t kill me!”

“What the--? What happened to your robot voice?” Saitama asked, confused on what just happened.

“Sorry, I was just trying to sound cool.” The gorilla answered.
